  1. Herbs
Many wild plants and herbs grow on our land. The most harmful weeds growing on our farm are:
Comfrey, Chickenweed and Scutch Grass. They are harmful because they spread rapidly and they also impoverish the soil.
Thistles and Ferns are looked upon as growing only where the land is good.
Certain herbs have medicinal properties. Chickenweed is used to take down swellings. The herb is roasted and applied to the swelling. Garlic is used to prevent blackleg in cattle. The Dandelion is boiled in milk and then the strained liquid is a cure for yellow jaundice.
Nettles and Dock Leaves are sometimes used as food for fowl. Young nettles are used as vegetable during the month of March, as they are good for the blood.
