The remains of an old oak tree which was growing on a small hill top in the farm now owned by Ed O'Malley, Pallasbeg are still to be seen.
In the time of the Croppies it is said that the local men had for their leader one Harry Ryan.
The Lloyds, Protestant landlords who lived in "the great house" Towerhill had cause to dislike this man and they caused rumours to be circulated secretly saying that he was untrue and selling information to them.
The stories were believed and a meeting was called. When all were assembled one of the Croppies asked the leader "What should be done with a man who would sell his comrades"?
"Tie him by the heels to the nearest tree" said Harry Ryan little suspecting that he was passing judgment on himself. They immediately seized him and hung up by the heels on this mentioned oak tree. When dead they carried his body through the fields and buried it in a place called Móinóg.
