One of his most notable pieces was "Lament for the Death of Sir Stephen De Vere," and one of his plays was The Death of a Fenian. This play was first produced in the Abbey Theatre Limerick and it was a great success.
Aubrey De Vere lived in Curragh about four miles from Askeaton. He was noted for his poetry. Many of his poems are now published and they include A ballad of Athlone, St Patrick and the Bard, and a Ballad of Sarsfield. He is buried in Askeaton Church Yard. - John Connel lived in Newbridge. He wrote a poem, about the countryside. He wrote poems about people when they offended him. He was a carpenter by trade.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
