  1. From a spot near a river, far over the sea,
    Come greetings from home, fond greetings to me,
    They come from dear friends wishing friendship and weal,
    That I prized long ago by the sweet river Deel.

    Oh the years have gone by, since I had to depart,
    From those whom I loved from the depths of my heart,
    But unbridled, unfettered, my thoughts often steal
    Away, far away, to the sweet River Deel.

    Oh oft did I wander by that river's broad side,
    When life was my own and enjoyment my pride,
    Or played with my playmates till my head seemed to reel
