- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)daughter on a tree that grew nearby. Ever since then the spirits of the two creatures are seen at midnight, sometimes in the shape of a dog, sometimes that of a pig. There are living today people who have met the spirits of "Maire na Scian" and her daughter. One night a man was passing the tree where the two were hanged. A small dog appeared and walked along by his side, and he grew bigger and bigger until he was taller than the man and he tried to grind him against the fence. The man burned a lot of matches throwing them in the dog's eyes until they came to where a stream crossed the road and there the dog disappeared. The man got home more dead than alive and he stayed in six months in bed.
