He used to compose a lot. It was no trouble to him. He couldn't either read or write. He was a labourer. He was very good to make panniers.

My grandfather - Curley ODonovan his name was, Curley Báid - used to be answering Mass at the stations. At this time he was bad with rheumatism and used not go out so much. There was a station above in Beith á gholáin at Thady Mhicíl's - Thady Donovan's - and they had no one to answer Mass. The servant boy was sent down here for Curley Báid. As he was coming down he met Tadhg Ciaruigheach.
"Dhe - where are you going?" said Tadhg
"Such a thing" said the boy.
"And what will you say to Curley?"
"Dhe what'll I say only tell him come up and answer Mass?"
Tis in Irish they were talking, and said Tadhg
