    The people tilled a lot in the old times - say 120 years ago. Until the failure came on the potatoes they were well off enough. Then grew a lot of wheat and corn, and there was good money to be got in these. There was a man from DERRYRUA who sold wheat in Bandon one time, and so pleased was he at the money he made that he made a a song about it. Part of it ran:-
    "Trí púnt ar an mála agus ocht mála san acra -
    Táim-se im codladh agus ná dúisigh mé!
