  1. Many funny stories are told in this district. Once there lived a woman named Mary Sweeney, and she had a son named John. He went to America when he was twenty years, and he remained there for six years. When he came home, he knew lots of big words, and his mother was learning the words he was speaking.
One night, as they were sitting around the fire he said to her that he would tell a parable to her. She asked him what was the meaning of a "Parable" and he said it was a "tale", and so he told her the tale. Then he told her to extinguish the light, and she asked him the meaning of "extinguish" and he said it was to put out.
Next night, they had a dance, and while the dance was on, they dog came into the house and he said the John, "Catch the dog by the Parable and extinguish him.
