    Father Kearney lived in Bantry, and used to celebrate Mass in Kealkil. There was a man named Dan Hurley, nicknamed, "Coeury"[?] living in the village. He owned a public house. Each Sunday, on his way home, the two used to be jawing at each other. The two were gifted with poetry.
    "Father Kearney says to Dan, one day "How is the porter". Faith it is fine and fresh," Father Kearney "Will you try a pint of it"? This happened after Mass was over, when the priest was on his way home. There were no motor-cars in those days, and so the priest came on horseback.
    Now, this horse was old, and had bad legs, and used to stumble when walking. His kneecaps were off. Dan looked at his legs and said", "Pon my word, that fellow must have his prayers well", (pointing to the horses knees). Dan was blind in one eye, and his horse was blind in one eye, and his wife was blind in one eye. Father Kearney said, "My horse has his prayers well, surely, but Dan you are blind in one eye, and
