- About 80 years ago some people here used to grind their own flour. They used to grind it between two round heavy stones specially made for the purpose called grinding stones or Querns. There was one of those grinding stones to be seen in Dillane's of Sistellick. Those two stones were round and heavy. One of them was placed on the ground and the other which was placed on the ground and the other which had a large hole in the middle was placed on top of this. The people used to pour the wheat through the hole on the upper stone while it was [?] made spin around on the stone underneath. The stone on top while spinning around on the stone underneath ground the wheat into flourThe people then used to make cakes of this flour on a board called a loissead (loisead) and sometimes they used to mix boiled potatoes with the flour and make what they used to call a practie cake (a potato cake). They used also bake cakes called Pointers. They were the shape of a triangle
