- Shops were not common in olden times and the people had to go to the nearest town to buy their goods. Buying and selling was carried on after Mass long ago sheep and cattle of all sorts were carried on after mass. Labour was often given in exchange for goods. A large number of words was used in connection with buying and selling such as I'll give you five quid if you give me ten bob luck. no he said I'll give you three bulls eyes, we will split the difference you will give him eight bob and a corner beggars often visit our district(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
