  1. Long ago there was an old school at a bridge in the townland of Ummeraroe, in the parish of Geevagh, in the Co. Sligo.
    It was in that school that my grandfather and grandmother were taught. Master Bruen was the teacher's name. There were not any hedge schools long ago. The teachers used not to teach the children much Irish at that time. Arithmetic was the principal subject taught. They used to write on slates. English books was ll the books they used. Long ago the teachers used to be very cross.
