In olden times the people ate two meals of potatoes in the day, There were no tables. The whole family sat on two turf sods around a rod basket beside the fire. The knives the people used were made of small pieces of timber shaped like a knife. With these they peeled their potatoes. They sometimes peeled them with their fingers. The drinking vessels were called noggins made of timber and shaped like a mug. For supper they used flummery boiled like thin porridge. It was made of oatmeal which was steeped for more than three week till it was as sour as buttermilk. People always longed for the Christmas feast. The people always thought they had a great supper. They placed the kitchen door on the centre of the floor on four large stones. They had boxty for super. they lighted twelve rush candles and left them in the centre of the table.
