- Long ago there were football and hurling matches played in this district. It mostly was the towns men that played in the matches. There were seven or eight men on each side. It was mostly parish against parish.
The ball was never kicked across country. The players were dressed in ordinary clothes. Some boys had a cow's bladder for a football.
The space of the goal was marked with two stones. There was hurling also played in the district. It was a stick of ash they had for a hurley which was got in a field.- Bailitheoir
