  1. One night about half eleven o'clock a man named James O'Donnell was coming from Castlebar. When he was just coming into a village called Comar he thought he heard terrible noise on before him. At first he listened but then he could not hear it at all. At any rate he kept coming on making for home as quickly as he could. Just when he was a while in Comar village he thought he saw some black thing rolling on the road before him. He kept walking fast thinking he could pass out, but when he would try to pass out, the thing would cross the road. It was a barrel, and it kept rolling before him along the road for a quarter
