    One evening for to seek recreation I sat myself under a shade

    Oh fairest of female creation Alas what sad tidings for me. I would rather see life's termination Than be parted for ever from thee. And besides thee's an awful destruction on the fair shores of America. And no keener place could charm you Like the green shades of Ballybay.
    Oh Janny I am candidly speaking For to change sure it will a no do. But you know that my poor heart is breaking For parting my comrades and you. But now as your love's been so faithful Get ready with me come come away. And the green shades of sweet Ballybay.
    oh sure now my heart's joy and treasure For to ramble I ne'er was inclined
