  1. There are three forges in this parish.
    The smiths are Thomas [?] Mc Keirnan Crosserlough County Cavan, Peter Smith Kilnaleck, County Cavan and Francis Smith Cramefield Crosserlough, County Cavan.
    Tom Mc Keirnan's forge is situated in the centre of the parish.
    Peter Smith's forge is in the town of Kilnaleck and it is beside a stream.
    The forge is a fairly long wide high building with a thatched roof on it.
    The doors are of no special shape they are just ordinary doors.
    There is one fireplace inside of the forge.
    The bellows is circular in shape and it is made of iron, leather and wood.
    It is used for keeping the fire lit when he is making shoes and other things.
    The implements he uses are, a hammer, pincers, file, a vice an anvil, a trough, a sledge and other implements also.
    The smiths never shoe cattle but they shoe horses and asses.
    The smiths do not make farm implements but they mend them.
