- There was an old hedge-school about one and half miles out the Tullamore Road.
The name of the place is Cunahilla and a man named Master Marshall taught there.
Peter Flattery's father and uncles and Aunts were taught by him.
he was a good school-master and five good scholars came from that school.
The pupils had to pay a shilling a month and if they were very poor they would bring something to him or do hard work for him. The people around the school used to keep the scholars if they came from far away. The took it turn about to keep them and the scholar's would bring them something for keeping them. This was told to be me by Mrs. Thompson who got it from Peter Flattery who is over eighty.
There was also a hed-school in the hills the name of the master was Stephen Molloy. he was put out when Bailey bought the land from Armstrong, the landlord before that.- Bailitheoir
