  1. Philipstown is at the back of the railway in the townland of Errymaryborough.
    There is a heap of stones on the top of the hill and they point out the place where the castle was. This castle was built by the Irish when fighting against the Normans.
    When they were building the cottages for ex-servicemen they found old buttons and bones which were said to be belonging to the people that lived in the castle.
    It is said that Mr. Goodbody got some of these buttons.
    J. Allen Hillside, Clara, told me that the buttons mentioned above belonged to the old yeomanry of this district. One was found by ESB men when digging to erect poles. It was inscribed Kilcoursey Calvary and had a cross without a crown on it. Mr. H. Goodbody, Kilcoursey is said to have one.
