    The Sergeant and the donkey
    i
As I walked out one fine morning in the fair month of May
The sun's bright rays did shine as through Oulart I did stray
As I walked along the road not thinking any harm oh!
An armed sergeant I did see, says I
"those boys must be in haste, they must be on road-duty oh!
If an ass or pig they chance to meet the owner will pay the booty oh!
    ii
And as the guard they did advance
    A hungry donkey they espied
Feeding upon a plot of grass to satisfy his appetite
Quickly they did him surround and sired on Him without delay
The sergeant the beast to pound and to drive straightway
    iii
The donkey not being satisfied that he should leave his fine soft grass
Turned and faced his foes desiring them to let him pass
