Miss O 'Connor says there were only three meals taken in the day and that potatoes were eaten at every meal 8 o'clock. a.m. noon + 6 p.m. They always worked before breakfast and the wages earned were 6d and 4d per day. New milk was scarce + was scarcely ever drunk. The cows were not fed very well in winter + their yield was small just a drop for tea when it began to be used. She knew a man named Brien of Garryvadden grandfather to the teacher of the time in Ballyvaldon)
    who said when an old man that he had'nt tasted new milk for the past thirty years.
    Buttermilk was drunk and the table was placed in the middle of the floor
    Oaten + barley bread were eaten and made as made now. Fish was used in plenty
    Eggs were cheap 2d and 3d dozen + were used in plenty
    The vessels used at meals were entirely of wood, wooden noggins being used as cups
