  2. Mr Belvin says that in the year of the "big snow 1808" the people cut their way to the nearest potato pits + the pit for the time was common property. (In this district the potatoes are "pitted" at digging time)
    He also mentions that people of different townlands dug their way till they met gang working in opposite directions
    He thinks the snow fell about 6th Jan.
    The Big Wind of 1839 stripped many roofs completely in this districts
