   There was once a mother and a son living in a house together. One day the mother went to town .When she was coming home, she came through the fields and got drowned in a glen and her son said,
   Bliadain is la indiú
   Fuair mo matair bhás
   Da ndeacaid sí timceall an bóthair
   Béidh sí timceall na h-Eireann anois.

   The old people say that before the end of the world will come, there will be a wonderful light in the sky and sea. It is also said to be in Columkille's prophecy that cattle cannot be sold and that there will be bands of cattle and cows at every cross-roads. One day long ago a robin was on the fence picking a bit of dung and the blackbird came along and said, "Give me a bit". The robin answered, " Have it yourself or die without it". There is no fireplace like your own. Old soldiers never die they only fade away.
