    locality and is known by them as "Páirc-na-Cháma, "the field of the brave", (It is from the same place that the chain shot was fired at Castlrichard Castle the enemy only simply turning round the cannon to the opposite direction to which the stormed Inchiquin Castle). In consequence of the thickness of the walls of this castle, it successfully resisted the cannonading for a long time, and the rotundity of the wall's, in many instance's caused the cannon ball's to fly off at a tangent: but it was ultimately taken through the treachery of a servant girl in the castle who being bribed by the enemy, pointed out to them the weak part of the wall by hoisting a handkerchief over the spot, and in addition the enemy sent a boat from youghal, with cannon placed on it up the river when the tide was in which came directly under the castle, not fifty yard's and battered it so much that the besieged surrendered. (2) The south west portion, which was under the fire of the cannon has been undermined by the action of the sea at every tide for over two hundred years that it seperated
