  1. The Landlords of this district were Sir Arthur De Capel Brooke Simon Dring, Ponsonby Lord Midleton, and Captain Smyth Barry of Bally Edmond was our Landlord, most of those Landlords held possession of those properties for generations. Some treated their tenants very fairly and consquently were popular with the tenantry ; while others notably Ponsonby, about forty years ago evicted a whole country side from the Barony to Park. The Landlords got their lands by different means, some were soldiers of Cromwell and as a reward for their services got certain districts after the orignal owners were forced to fly, while others actually won them by a game of cards or a race. The Landlords had great control over the tenants and treated them as if they were slaves.
