  2. On another occasion Fr Mc Namara and Gallagher were walking down Market Lane. Up to that time the sewer was only partly covered. Gallagher gave a smothered cry as if from a drowning child. One or two bystanders raised an alarm. A crowd gathered and began searching under the flags of the drain. Again they heard the cry of the supposed child but from a different point. The crowd now began shouting and trembling over each other. The ventriloquist would have enjoyed the sport much longer but Fr Mc Namara urged him to leave
