  1. The potato crop is one of the most useful crops a farmer can grow as it is extensively used as human food.
    The farmer prepares the ground for this crop in Spring. First all of the ground is ploughed; afterwards it is broken up very finely with a harrow. Then it is made into drills. The drills are opened with a plough, called a drill-plough. The manure is next carted out, and spread between every two drills.
    The seed potatoes are then put down on the manure about a foot apart. Then the drills are closed again to cover the seed, and so the crop is sown.
    The people cut the potatoes into three or four parts called sriolláns, before they put them in. When the potatoes are fit
