   'Tis there in Shrove time that pleasant love time
   The girls oft time they do repair
   With their cheeks like roses not to mind their noses
   And artificial posies stuck in their hair
   On every Tuesday their nate and spruce day
   In new cloth cloaks they do assemble there
   From mountains wandering and through vales meandering
   They come philandering from far and near.

   The lovely lasses as a buachail passes
   Through pigs and asses looks so mighty shy
   While Paddy buadhaigh or Donal Cruaidh
   Or old Nell Twohig makes the match hard by
   A few nights after midst mirth and laughter
   Each sooty rafter looks bright with joy
   While the lovely maiden like Eve in Ayden
   With smiles in weddin' her darling boy.

   Were I Tyrannus or Polyhemus
   Or Prout whose name spreads through the globe
   In sweet effusions more soft and studious
   Dunmanaway's beauties I would invoke
   But mother nature the jealous crature
   To each of them gave most high renown
   And did I inherit their poetic spirit
   You'd get your merit Dunmanaway town.
