   cows came out of the sea, a white, a black, and a red one. They stood on the shore for some time and then each moved off in a different direction. The black went south, the red north and the white went to the centre of Ireland. Every place the Bó Fionn went was named after her.
   In this district there is a lake called "Lough Bó Finne." This proves that the white cow visited this place.

   Mermaids were supposed to have been seen near the sea in years gone by. One day two fishermen saw a mermaid near Chapel Island. She had long hair reaching to her waist and had a sort of clothing of weeds resembling an apron. She followed the boat some distance, but was unable to speak only grunt, and was very cross looking. Another story was told how a man caught a mermaid, took her home and married her. She lived in his home for many years, learned
