The people of Ireland built houses of mud wall. They had the fire at the back wall. The light the people had was a candle.
Long ago two or three houses would be in one farm. The floor of the houses would be made of clay. The houses were thatched. There was no second floor in the houses. There were very small houses. There was only one window in every apartment. The windows were very small. The fire was in the side of the kitchen. They built mud houses. The fire was on the hearth and they used turf.
