  1. The following poem was written by Pat Fitzpatrick, Carn - Newbliss who died about seven years ago - aged 65. Felix Beagin of Carn got a lame man to mow his corn, when there were many others available.
Many a mean turn the Beagins did
Many an act both mean & low
But the meanest turn they ever did
Was getting Lame Moore to mow.
If all the grain that was on my plains
Should lie & rot, food for the crow,
I'd willingly let all go to loss
Before I'd get lame Moore to mow.
The Beagins' fortune was amassed unjustly
The White Leghorn fraud the world doth know
(They had a Leghorn Fowl Station)
But I'd let all go without a murmur
If they hadn't got Lame Moore to mow.
Oh! Carn boys how did you bear it
Why didn't you rush with blackthorn & spade
When in your town the news went round
That lame Johnny Moore had presented a blade.
