There is superstitions connected with many feast days of the year.

St. Martin's Day
On St. Martin's Day most people kill a cock and sprinkle his blood on the four corners of the house and they put some of it on a piece of tow and leave it up over the door and it is supposed to cure cuts.

St Stephen's Day
On St Stephen's Day the young boys dress up and go from house to house collecting money to bury the wren. They carry a dead wren on the top of a stick and recite a verse as follows:-
The wren, the wren, the king of all birds
On St Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze
Although she be little her family great
Get up landlady, and give us a trate.
Up with the kettle, down with the pan,
Give us our answer and let us begone,

They go in gangs of eight and nine.
