- Long ago there lived between Coolaney and Collooney two old "hags". Their names were Áine and Únaí. These two old "hags" were constantly fighting and causing trouble in the locality. At last, they were brought before the judge and the judge ordered that they should be separated. Áine to be sent to the town now called Coolaney and Únaí to be sent to the town now called Collooney. This is how these two towns got their present names.
