As the people had no way of cooking their meals they used buy a noggin of Stir-a-bout(a noggin was a wooden jug) for a 1d. It was on Indian meal stirabout the people lived during the few months they were building the Stirabout bridge and that is why the Stirabout Bridge was called that name.
