- Early in the last century in a townland in
bo.S ligo Live a man and his wife and young
children. He had a little calf to sell for
the rent which was to be paid in November.
He brough decaf to the fair of Bellaghy
and sold him. after a couple all of hours
he set off for home. It was a long journey
and the night was very dark. as he was
passing by a fort he heard great music
and saw a great gathering of men and
women dancing. They invited him in to
rest, he said it was as well to spend an
hour with them and he never had better
fun in all his life. When he tried to go
home they asked him to have something to
eat. He would not eat or drink with them
for he knew they were fairies so they said
“You will have to bring some clothes to your
wife and children,” so they made a rope of
straw and doubled it and filled it up with
flannin and yarn and firege, and linen
sheets and a shawl and a white cap for his
wife and a silk hat for himself. They tied all
up in the rope and put the load on his back
