Seo mo lámh duit, nach bhfuil me pósta
Ach buachaillín óg mé thug greann do mhnaoi
Má thagann tú abhaile liom anois go hEhochaill
Ceannocaidh míd bólach ar bheag án máon
Cuirfidh mó high cál cap orth do'n maisean
Ár fónadh hata clóca agus láimhíní
Beidh siopa drama againn ar taobh an bhóthair
Agus leanbhín óg deas ag suibhal an tighe.
I find good promise but bad perfromance
What we have often heard and seen
But if you marry me by Holy Orders
To be your darling I will agree.
Thus mé lion í go bfraoich na móna le gealamaint i móra go bpósfainn í
Gur bheall mé uaothi luach hata agus brógaí
Agus teasbáin mé an mbóchair dí abaile arís.
My tender parents are now advising me
That I must sail to Vandieman's land
For I am disable to work or labour
To cultivate or to sow the land.
If the wind was South and my home was blowing
I would not move from the fire side
And if there was a tavern at St Patrick's station
I'd be delighted to tarry in.
