He was a small man. His house at Manorhamilton was was raided one night and the Irish intended to kill him. The wife said he was not at home. They said they would burn the house. Well said she I have many a precious thing here but I can't bring them all. Please let me bring the full of a bag and do then what you like with the house. The leader said she might do that.
Mrs Hamilton and her children left. She carried a big bag on her back and was helped by her children.
The raiders suspected nothing but she managed to carry Sir Frederick away to a place of safety.
The castle was burned and the lead flowed down the streets of Manorhamilton for seven days.
