    in Dunamon Castle and its vicinity.
    The popularity of the Caulfields may be judged from the fact that although their castle was occupied alternately by rivalled, armed forces during the Anglo-Irish struggle and the subsequent civil war, not even the slightest damage was done by the temporary occupants of the place.
    They were never known to refuse a request made to them by those on their estate or outside it and frequently gave the castle ballroom for Ceilidhthe, dances and concerts without even inquiring for what purpose these were organized.
    The last member of the family died in Piccadilly, London about ten years ago, and their castle is at present in the hands of the Irish Land Commission.
