  1. In ancient times the mermaids were to be seen much more often thatn what they are now. There was always a mermiad to be seen along the strand in Enniscrone and she was supposed to be able to work magic. One day four beautiful children were playing on the strand and the mermaid came to them. After a short time she asked them a question and they answered in an insulting way. Then she instantly turned them into four rocks, and they bleed at a certain time every four years.
