  1. That was Mary King's in "Cur ns Coille"
    When she sold a hen or a cock to a neighbor she payed the rent in that way. She took a hen a duck or a cock in part payment. Her name was Mary Horkan from Tavnagh near Straid.

  2. A lot of beggars come to the houses here but you would not see the same one three times. They bring baskets with them in which the carry rosary beads, purses, vases, necklaces, saltcellars, and other little things.
    If a person does not buy anything the beggars ask for a grain of tea or a pinch or sugar or drop of milk. Sometimes they ask their dinner or tea.
