  1. Many of the houses in this locality were very small, the walls being constructed of mud and the roof of straw or reeds.
    The windows if any were not glazed and the fireplace was in the centre of an earthen floor.
    In the kitchen was a settle bed with a tick filled with chaff. The blankets, sheet and quilt were home woven. The women spun the flax and wool and the local weaver made the cloth. This bed was shut up during the day and cold be used as a seat or table.
    The dresser was well furnished with pewter plates and sides and wooden noggins.
