  1. There was a very heavy snow-storm in this district in the year 1893. The snow was drifted into the dykes and hollow places and remained there for at least six weeks. A little house belonging to Paddy Sullivan, Gurranedauragh, Farranfore, Co. Kerry in which he and his wife lived was completely covered with snow and the only air hole was the chimney. The neighbours dug a passage into the house about 3 o' clock in the evening and the inhabitants thought it was only 9 o' clock in the morning as they had no light.
    A boy named Michael Sullivan same place was coming from school through a nearway some three weeks after and fell down through the snow beside a fence to a depth of seven feet. He was found almost dead by his parents who went looking for him when he did not return the usual hour from school. This storm occurred in the month of February. The people suffered very
