  1. There is but one forge in this parish. John Sullivan, Urrohogall, Farranfore is the smith. His father was a smith for sixty years. The forge is situated near the cross-roads and beside the river Maine.
    The forge is a low cement building of a rectangular shape about 16 feet by 12 feet and is covered with felt. The floor is made of railway sleepers. The door is made of corrugated iron about 10 feet high and 5 feet broad. There is but one fireplace within worked by one bellows. They were not made locally.
    The smith uses the following implements: sledge hammer, boring machine, chisel, knife, vice, rasp punch, pincers, nails
    He shoes horses and asses but no cattle. He makes no farm implements but repairs ploughs, harrows, spades, pikes, shovels and axes.
    Shoeing of wheels is always done
