    These houses were burned because the owners were soldiers of the Irish Republican Army.
    Lightning struck the house of Terence McMahon, Ardcrone, Farranfore and portion of the thatched roof was burned in the year 1882. A newly-born babe in the cradle and a bottle of holy water in the dresser were among the four things that escaped injury. I heard that the baby when she grew up was nicknamed "Lightning". There were seven people in the house but no one was killed.
