house to house, in this district of Granard, they sing the "Wren Song."
    Up with the kettle,
    Down with the pan,
Give me a penny to bury the wren,
If you haven't got a penny,
    A halfpenny will do,
    If you haven't a halfpenny,
    "God bless you."
They next dance and play musical instruments. The people of the house then give them a few pence. At night they count up, and divide their money, and it is usually spent on small simple purchases such as sweets, biscuits, lemonade and cigarettes.
