    either ridges or drills, as both are quite common in this locality. Ridges are made with six scrapes and a furrow by means of a plough. A spade for digging and making into drills is usually used by people who only sow what is called a "garden of potatoes", that is, only a small quantity.
    When the ridges or drills have been opened manure is spread on them, and then the "splits" are dropped, and covered with clay by a spade, shovel or sometimes the plough.
