    broke up the paling, and threw it up on the bank, and he says it made a "capital fire". In the same hole resting on the clay at the bottom he found a round wooden dish about 18 inches in diameter, and 2 or 4 inches deep in perfect condition. He took home the dish and used it for various purposes up to a few years ago when it got broken, and (disappeared) disappeared probably burned.
    Resting on the clay on the bottom he also found several scantlings, nicely dressed and squared. Some of them had one end notched with a v or a triangular cut on the end, and some of them had an end halved; and one of them was half burned. The scantlings were roughly about 4' or 5' inches square; and one was about 12" by 6" or 7" inches and about 10 inches long. They also helped the paling to keep the pot boiling.
