  1. (continued from previous page)
Because your friendship it was real
    Your little heart was warm
And to please me your would sake your tail
    And bend in every form.
Then you would frisk around my feet
    To show your fond affection
And run to meet me on the street
    With joy in your complexion
Now I'll return love for love
And defend you from all harm
And a faithful friend to you I'll prove
    Till death unnerved my arm.
In spite of foul oppression's law
    And sordid legislation,
You may fix your little bed of straw
    Near my old habitation
Though freakish fortune shuns my door
    And I possess no riches
    I'll maintain you although poor
In spite of sons of b--s.
Live and be happy, little Spy,
    For I'm no double dealer
On what I say you may rely --
    I am no Yankee tailor.
