  1. There was a poor man travelling through the townlands of Quilca and Drumrath, Virginia, Co Cavan. He seldom if ever went outside these townlands but of course he did not visit every house in this district daily.
    One day he went to one of the houses and the door being shut he knocked but he got no answer. He knocked again and still no answer. He knocked again knowing well that there was someone within.
    This time he heard someone inside saying "put your finger in the key-hole and lift the latch". The man thinking there could be no harm done to him stuck his finger into the hole. But no sooner did the man's finger appear inside then it was suddenly cut off by someone inside.
    It was the man of the house that wanted to get rid of him. This poor man not only deserted this house but left the district and he went to live near Cavan. It did not take his finger long to get better.
