  1. (continued from previous page)
And leaves the unhappy victims to endure
Distress and anguish, langour want and grief,
Deprived of justice and denied relief,
'Til injured nature sinks beneath decay
And then to death they fall an easy prey.
Now in the dead-house cold and pale they lie
Without a friend to mourn their fate or cry,
Ah! reader dear, reflect a while and pause
And mediate on those ungrateful laws.
If human reason in your bosom reigns
I claim your pity when you read those strains.

  2. Tennyson's Boar (by James Tevlin Billywood)
The poet draws a picture of a terrible monster which he calls Tennyson's Boar. The boar becomes poetic and patriotic and says:-
"With pointed teeth my freedom I'll maintain,
I fought two peelers and I'll fight again.
And if Sergeant Gilmore in my range I meet
I'll leave his entrails smoking on the street.
Now, I'll prepare immediately to go
To Belfast city, down to Sandy Row.
And there one Party fiercely I'll engage
    With frantic fury and malignant rage;
Their flags and banners I'll tramp in the mud
And mix the gutter with their purple blood,
Because I know all Partymen are fools -
Irish dupes and Privy Council tools"
